Your product cleared the first check. The one that stops a paid order runs later.
The customer bought it. The money is in. Then the order sits there with a warning on it and the print never starts. Nothing is broken: the product cleared one check, and the second one runs after the payment.
The shape of it is always the same. A design goes up, sits in the shop for weeks, finally sells — and only then does anyone look properly at what is about to be printed.
So say it plainly: publishing a product is not permission to print it. There are two checks, at two moments, and clearing the first settles nothing about the second. Only the second one can stop an order you have already been paid for.
The order reaches the printer after the money
Printify spells the sequence out. After a customer buys on your sales channel the order appears in your Orders tab, and by default it is sent to production 24 hours after import.
Printful makes the same gap a status. Waiting for Fulfillment is an order already submitted and paid for, waiting for fulfilment to begin. That is the room a hold lands in.
What can stop an order that is already sold
Printful puts an order On hold when it needs to confirm something first. The reasons it lists: the print file, the delivery address, stock availability, or payment — print file problems being low resolution, or content that doesn't follow its guidelines.
You get no veto over that. Printful states you can't request to proceed «as is» for every hold type: holds on print file content or on security have to be resolved to its guidelines. A second status, Failed, drops the order back to a draft — and can cover orders violating its Terms of Service and Intellectual Property Policy.
Printify's list is a different list, and the difference matters. Its On hold: Action required substates are payment not received, out of stock, discontinued product, address issues, «Canceled - IP reported», and shipping restrictions. An order can also sit under review for payment verification, intellectual property or embroidery digitisation — and while it does, it can't be edited or sent to production. File quality is not on that list.
The provider can pull out on its own, too. Printify documents Canceled by Print Provider for production or stock issues: it notifies you, refunds in full, you order again elsewhere.
The check at publication exists as well
It would be a tidy line to say the only check that counts comes at print time. Printify's own page says otherwise. A product blocked for intellectual property shows as blocked in My products: you can't publish it, order it, duplicate or replace it — and if it was already published, it's hidden from your connected sales channel.
- Nobody has to complain. Even without a complaint, Printify may block products its internal review systems identify as potentially infringing — and says an internal block doesn't necessarily mean a product was confirmed as infringing, only that it was identified as high risk.
- It isn't only the drawing. A block can be triggered by the design, the title or the description: an original design, Printify's own example goes, with a title that references a protected brand.
One sentence there is worth reading twice, especially if you generate images and assume they are therefore yours to sell: «Creating the design yourself does not automatically mean you have the right to use it commercially.»
There is an appeal. Printify states that submitting one doesn't guarantee the product will be unblocked, and that it stays blocked while you wait.
The two of them do not check the same things
| Stated reason an order can be stopped | Printful | Printify |
|---|---|---|
| Print file quality or resolution | A listed hold reason | Not among its stated reasons |
| Print file content, intellectual property | Hold, and «Failed» | «Canceled - IP reported» |
| Payment, stock, delivery address | Listed | Listed |
| Shipping restrictions | Not on the pages we read | Listed |
| Embroidery digitisation | Products may be locked during it | A stated review reason |
On the file, Printful asks for at least 150 DPI sized to the real print dimensions — resolution alone isn't enough if the dimensions are wrong. Below that it often doesn't refuse, it fixes: the Smart Image Tool needs nothing switched on and doubles the DPI by itself, between 38 and 74 DPI on regular products, 75 to 149 on paper ones. So «bad file, rejected order» is not the rule either. Neither company publishes a threshold below which it refuses.
The refund comes back to you. Your buyer is still waiting.
On Printful, an order left on hold for more than 30 days is automatically canceled and refunded — and the refund goes to your Printful Wallet. On Printify, a provider cancellation is a full refund to you, and then you start the order again.
Read that carefully. The money returns to the seller's balance on the platform. Neither page says anything about the customer who paid you and is still expecting a parcel. That side is yours — and it is the real cost of a second check you didn't know was coming.
Then the door closes. Copying a canceled order doesn't carry the original hold reason over: fix the file or the address in the draft, or it's held again for the same thing. And once fulfilment begins, orders and individual items can't be edited or canceled at all.
The two checks you can only run after the sale
Stock. Printful tells you an item is out of stock at its suppliers in the order confirmation email. Three ways out: switch product, wait for restock with no guarantee how long, or cancel and take the refund to your Wallet. On Printify the swap is manual — duplicate, change provider, re-check the design because the new print area may differ in size, order again, price recalculated.
Personalisation. The text a customer types doesn't exist until they have paid, and Printify puts the job on you: review all customer-submitted personalisation before submitting an order, to avoid delays or cancellations. If only the personalisation was flagged, it warns, the standard appeal process may not apply.
Where DropMind is no use to you here
Bluntly: DropMind doesn't connect to Printful or Printify. No print files, no catalogue block, no IP review at a print provider. If print on demand is your business, this article is what we have for you — the software isn't.
What carries over is the question. Before a product goes up, ask what could still stop the order once the money has landed — that is the only failure that arrives with a customer attached. Printful is blunt about who owns it: uploading a file is you confirming you have the rights to use, sell and distribute that content.
You can try DropMind for seven days before paying anything. Same software, no cut-down version.

All of it is Printful's and Printify's own documentation, read on 1 September 2026. Neither help centre shows a publication or last-updated date, so treat the numbers — 24 hours, 30 days, 150 DPI, the DPI ranges — as what was readable that day. Neither publishes how often orders get held or canceled, so we have no figure and won't estimate one. And we don't run print-on-demand shops: no first-hand data of ours is in this piece.
If you go and check: both help centres refuse automated requests with a 403 error, so these pages have to be opened in a browser. An error there is not a missing page.
